Change/ Correction of Name and Address in IGNOU.

IGNOU has issued revised guidelines and Notification dated 23 August 2021 regarding the Correction in Student Name, Spellings, Father’s name, Guardian’s name printed in the IGNOU Database recornd and in the final mark sheet / grade card, provisional and convocational degree certificate.

What is new in new IGNOU notifcation for name and address change (Correction)  ?

Now student can apply for change in name even after the completion of programme and convocation Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate awarded to learner. Earlier there was no such provision of correction after the completion of programme and degree issued to learner.

Types of request allowed for change in name and address is as below:

  1. Minor correction in spelling of the student’s name/ Father’s name / guardian’s name
  2. Change in full name.
  3. Change in First/ Middle/ Last name
  4. Change in surname
  5. Change in surname after marriage.
  6. Change of address.

The student will have to return the mark sheet / Grade card / provision Certificate and Degree certificate, if any,  already issue with old name.

How to apply for change in Name / Address in IGNOU

Student need to fill the application form and pay the fee for any above correction.

How much to pay for change in Name / Address in IGNOU

The fee to entertain such request is as below

However if the mistake is from University side then no fee for this purpose will be charged from the students.

Fee to be paid through DD in the favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi.

Where to send the filled in application form

The duly filled in application form along with requisite fee and necessary document should be sent to The Registrar, SED, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi – 110068.

If student comes to know that there is any mistake in the name displayed on the University portal under admission detail during their study and before the completion of programme then student can approach to the Regional Center with legal evidence and supporting document. The error is rectified at the Regional Centre and corrected data transmitted to Student Registration Division (SRD), IGNOU Head Quarter for updating in the database.

This correction may take few days or week to reflect in the student database and admission details online on University portal. Keep checking the website for updates.
