Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme For 4-Year Undergraduate Programmes in IGNOU Admission

Based on NEP 2020, IGNOU has implemented Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme For 4-Year Undergraduate Programmes from July 2025 admission session onward. A detailed Notification  (Picture file ) issued on 28-07-2025 by the Student Registration Division (SRD). This notification is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.

This Notification reads : 
Based on the recommendations of the FY UP Committee in its 9th meeting, held on 3rd February 2025, the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme is hereby introduced for the Undergraduate Programmes offered by IGNOU under the FYUP framework, with effect from July 2025 admission cycle. The detailed guidelines for implementation of Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme arc given as per below guidelines.
 

Guidelines for Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme for Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes in IGNOU

The Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme is hereby introduced for the Undergraduate  Programmes offered by IGNOU under the FYUP framework, with effect from July, 2025 admission session.

The implementation of the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme for the IGNOU students as well as those coming from other universities/institutions will be regulated as under:
1. Under this Scheme, students will bc allowed entry to a programme in IGNOU within a period of 7 years of award of UG Certificate.
2. Only those applicants whose Major and Minor disciplines studied in the previous institution match with those offered by IGNOU, will be allowed to take admission. 
3. The applicants will have to choose Medium of Instruction in which the programme is being offered in IGNOU.
4. The applicants who do not fulfill the above requirements will be governed by the extant rules Of credit transfer Of IGNOU. They will seek admission to first year of the programme and subsequently, apply for transfer of credits of the completed courses as per the University rules.
5. The credits earned by a prospective applicant through SWAYAM/ MOOCs will be governed by the relevant rules of the University.


I)  IGNOU STUDENTS

The Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme for IGNOU students will be regulated as under:


A)  Multiple Exit from FYUP 

The IGNOU students will be able to seek exit from a programme as per the following procedure:
Levels and Points of Multiple Exit

SL Level of the Programme  Exit and Certification
1 Undergraduate Certificate

The learners successfully completing the first year (2 semesters) of study at the undergraduate level will be awarded an Undergraduate Certificate. Total Credits: 40+4=44

2 Undergraduate Diploma

The learners successfully completing the second year (4 semesters) of study at the undergraduate level will be awarded an Undergraduate Diploma. (Total Credits: 80+4 = 84)

3 Undergraduate Degree

The learners successfully completing the third year (6 semesters) of study at the undergraduate level will be awarded a Bachelor's Degree with Major in the relevant discipline. (Total credits: 120)

4 Undergraduate Honours Degree

The learners successfully completing all the four years (8 semesters) of study at the undergraduate level will be awarded a Bachelor's Honours Degree in the relevant discipline. Total credits: 160

 

1. An Undergraduate Certificate with name of the stream will be awarded to the students who wish to exit from the programme on completion of first two semesters (first year) with 40+4=44 credits. An Undergraduate Diploma will be awarded to the students who wish to exit from the programme on completion of first four semesters (two years) with 80+4=84 credits. On completion of six semesters (three years) with 120 credits, the students will be awarded an Undergraduate Degree with major in the relevant Discipline. Similarly, on completion of eight semesters (four years) with 160 credits, an Honours Degree in the relevant discipline will be awarded. 

2. A Certificate/ Diploma on such an exit at the end of first/ second year, will be awarded to the students on demand for which a specific request will be made by them. Such students can register for an additional 4-credit Vocational Education course other than the ones they have already taken in the first/second year, from the Vocational Courses Category of FY UP through the Course-wise Registration and Certification Scheme (CRCS) on the IGNOU Admission Portal. Once they have passed the 4-credit vocational course, the credit would be transferred to the Undergraduate Certificate / Diploma to make it 40+4/ 80+4 credits.

B) Multiple Entry to FYUP

The IGNOU students who have sought exit from a 4-year Undergraduate Programme can seek re-entry to that programme as per the following procedure:

1. IGNOU students shall be eligible to seek multiple entry in the Major as well as Multidisciplinary Programmes.
2. The applicants who have successfully completed Undergraduate Certificate (2 semesters/ one year of undergraduate degree) from IGNOU, will be given entry to the second year of the same programme.
3. The applicants who have successfully completed Undergraduate Diploma (4 semesters/ 2 years of undergraduate degree) from IGNOU, will be given entry to the third year of the same programme.
4. The applicants will be required to submit copies of Grade Card and Certificate for this purpose.
5. The credits of the UG Certificate/ Diploma will be transferred to the UG Degree along with the credits earned subsequent to his/her re-entry to the programme.
6. An applicant seeking lateral entry to second year of the FYUP will be given a maximum period of 4 years (2+2 years) to complete the Degree. 
7. An applicant seeking lateral entry to third year of the FYUP will be given a maximum period of 2 years (1+1 years) to complete the Degree.
8. Such students will be given a separate enrolment number and the credits of the courses completed under the previous enrolment number will be transferred to the new enrolment number. The Registration / Development Fee in addition to the Programme Fee as applicable will be charged from them on account of this lateral admission.

 

II) Multiple Entry for Students coming from Other Institutions

The following procedure will be adopted for students coming from other institutions to join IGNOU under this Scheme:

1. For the students coming from other institutions, multiple entry facility into the undergraduate major programmes offered under FYUP.
2. They will be allowed admission only to the 2nd year based on the Undergraduate Certificate subject to fulfilling other eligibility criteria, since, as per the Academic Bank Credits, at least 50% of the credits have to be earned from the degree awarding University/ institution.
3. Such applicants will be given lateral entry in the same stream with same Major and Minor disciplines.
4. The applicants will be required to submit self-attested copies of Grade Card/ Marksheet and Certificate for this purpose. They may be required to submit their original certificates for verification, if necessary.
5. An applicant seeking lateral admission to second year of the programme will be given a maximum period of 4 years (2+2 years) to complete the Degree.
6. The credits of the UG Certificate will be considered for FY UP along with the credits earned subsequently by him/her in IGNOU.
