IGNOU Counselling Schedule, Theory and Practical Class and Induction 2023.

IGNOU academic counselling is organized by the Regional Centres in collaboration with the Learner Support Centres (LSC)/ Study Center in face-to-face mode or in virtual mode. The academic counseling sessions is conducted through various online platforms such as Google meet, Zoom, YouTube etc. The RC and Study Center prepare counselling class schedule and intimate to the learners well in advance via post, email, social media etc.

IGNOU admission for January 2023 session was over in March 2023. Now newly admitted students should be ready for Induction and counselling class. Induction and counselling for almost all Certificate Programme and few Online programme (OL mode) January 2023 batch to be conducted in centralized manner and in online mode via google meet, zoom etc.

Attention IGNOU ODL Mode students - January 2023 Admission batch (UG/ PG/ Diploma/ PG Diploma)

IGNOU thoery counselling for few programme of UG/PG/Diploma/PG Diploma of ODL students admitted under January 2023 to be conducted in centralized online mode by identified Nodal Regional Centre. The Nodal RCs are to organise online Theory counselling sessions for the students of January 2023 admission session. The practicals of the above learners along with the assignments will be conducted/ evaluated at the level of the respective Regional Centres (where students are actually enrolled) and not by nodal regional center

Since IGNOU has more than 55 Regional centre and admissions are given under Regional Centre hence the academic counselling schedule, practical schedule, induction schedule varies from regional centre to regional centre. For some programme where the number of students is very less, then there is a provision of centralized induction or academic counselling.

Academic Counselling : Attention July 2021 Admission Session students

Counselling for Certificate/Semester based programmes for July 2021 Admission Session will be conducted in Online Mode and will be commenced soon. Newly enrolled Students of July 2021 Admission cycle is advised to be in touch with their Study Centre and Regional Centre for their induction and academic counselling schedule.

Since the students of Certificate and Semester based programme, admitted under July 2021 Admission session, are eligible to appear for TEE DEC 2021 session. In order to help such learner in terms of academic counselling and during this Covid – 19 situation classes are being organised in ONLINE mode …

Keep in constant touch with your Regional Centre / Study Centre for link , guidelines and schedule regarding Zoom, Goole Meet, Microsoft Team, Cisco webex etc channel to attend your counselling session.

The theory counselling sessions are usually not mandatory for the learners to attend, but academic counselling sessions are considered highly useful by the learners in order to facilitate, guide and motivate the distance learners during their course of study.

What is IGNOU Induction programme ?

University has a provision of Induction Programme for its new Learner. Generally Induction programme is conducted at each Study Center after the admission is finalised for the Session. However university may decide to conducted even before the entire Admission is finalized for the session .

For Induction programme and its schedule all the student is communicated via Email, SMS or Letter by the Study Center / Regional Center. It is advised to the leaner that once the Admission is confirmed student must be in touch with the Study Center.

What is IGNOU Counselling and Academic Counselling ?

Since IGNOU is based on ODL model, there is no face to face regular classes but it helps the Distance Learner in the form of ACADEMIC COUNSELLING (AC). AC is not restricted only to the subject matter but it is beyond that.

Counselling refers to interactions between student and institute which are not directly subject related. The counselling is the advice on general problems related to part-time and distance study, course choices and further training, examinations, registrations, financial support , payment and placement etc.,. In other words counselling in distance education covers all sort of activities related to Student Support.

Academic Counselling is clarifying the doubts of the students related to the academic content and it is conducted at Study Center. Students are advised to read the study material before attending the counselling class. Since the classes are limited in number ,it is better to be used for problem solving and clarifying the doubts of the students.

Conduct of IGNOU Practical class

IGNOU has launched several academic programmes which have a substantial practical component. Such academic programmes are activated at LSCs (stduy Center) where there is facility in terms of infrastructure and academic expertise to conduct the practical sessions. Practical sessions are conducted on regular basis on Saturday/ Sundays/ Holidays/ Evening of weekdays. The schedule for conduct of the practicals is drawn at the LSC about a month in advance and the learners are informed to register/ confirm their participation for the practical sessions. Attendance at the practical sessions is compulsory. Learners who do not have 75% attendance at the practical sessions of a respective course are not permitted to appear for the practical examination of that course.
